The Black Cat

June 14, 2020

Stalking the night, I slip between the village and my house

Blackest fur and piercing eyes, silent as the mouse

With my friend I travel across the bonny fields and sky

Mundane troubles pass us in the twinkle of an eye

As we descend from open air to the forest trees below

I hunt the plagued rats as my friend admires bats

Scouring the dark earth below

The rodents burrow under as the bats fly to and fro

I will not give, I will not rest until the rats be caught

Between my teeth, within my jaw

Bleeding at the snout

Won’t my friend be happy, to see that I have caught

The black plague rats, while she admires bats

From the forest floor below
