Neu Roses

In a garden of affection, you've sown your seeds

I rock in anticipation, eager to see the flower birthed

Will it be a decadent daisy?

Or a cruel cardinal.

You shower them with kisses

They bask in your warmth

Your touch is all they need to prosper

We're alike in that way.

They begin to wither with your wrath

Shrivel at your screams

They pull their roots from the soil, eager to escape.

But when they hear your lullaby, it's as though your

harm has ceased.

They yet not know their purpose

Bred to be cut

Nothing more than a pretty bouquet

Your affection is a lie.
